Workshops for cello ensemble
CELLI is a group of cellists which meets every three months to play music for multiple cellos. Players come from diverse areas in Britain, including London and Home Counties, Wiltshire, Dorset, Birmingham and as far west as Wales and Devon.
The group was started by Fannie Leigh and Alison Myers in 2000. They both realised there was an opportunity to explore the extensive repertoire for multiple cellos as well as experiencing the rich sound of a cello orchestra. Alison, a former pupil of William Pleeth, coaches the sessions. She is an experienced orchestral player, having in the past been for many years a member of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra. She has been involved regularly in Chamber Music coaching, as well as performing in Quartets and teaching at Winchester College. Fannie Leigh, who organised CELLI until November 2019, taught the piano at Winchester College for many years, is was a keen amateur cellist, and did some arranging for the group. She sadly passed away in November 2019 and will be sorely missed. However, it is her wish that Celli continues without her. To that end Alison is being ably helped by Barbara and others to continue to make the quarterly Celli workshops as fun and vibrant as they always were. |
