What we do
CELLI is aimed specifically for adults and was initially started to encourage those who have limited experience or chance of regular ensemble playing, and for those who were late starting the cello. The sessions have been particularly enjoyable, with groups of about 18 to 20 cellists playing music in up to twelve parts. Our first concert in March 2003 was a great success, as was our participation in the Romsey Arts Festival 2005. The group now includes several teachers and advanced players , but the music is chosen carefully in order not to compromise those with modest technique, whilst giving the more advanced players the challenge of the more difficult parts. We feel that players will be more comfortable if they have reached at least Grade 5/6 standard. Because of the number of players, more often than not, there are at least three or four players to a part. The atmosphere is definitely non-competitive, stimulating and designed to be enjoyable for you. The days run from 10am - 4pm, mostly at the weekends, and include a two course lunch.
We also offer half day workshops which have proved popular. These have focused on certain aspects of technique, or specific works. The workshops take place in a more intimate atmosphere, and are in groups of no more than eight, giving the players the chance of more individual attention.
